How do you know how much fuel is left? It could have like 2 gallons...
... but it don’t.

Haha because I had an E90 M3, and when it said 171 miles to empty it meant more like 100-140

Yeah... it will forever be my quest to get that mythical 20 mpg hwy.

lol yea those are lies. I hope you’re not adding a $15 quart of oil every 3 fill-ups like I was. That makes the MPG much easier to shoulder.

I got 20 mpg on the highway twice in the 2+ years I’ve had mine. Seems to do about 18 most of the time no matter how you drive it.

If you think that’s nuts, I needed to add gear oil to my Corvair’s diff more often than I needed to add fuel to the 10 gallon tank because the transmission input seal is toast. I got it to stop leaking now though. It’s sitting outside the car while I get tools and parts to rebuild it.

Wha?? Did yours eat up oil that bad? Mine is actually doing a lot better than I expected. On my last track day, it only ate up about 1/8 quart if that digital gauge is to be trusted.
I want my dipstick back.

!!! You must have the patience of a saint.
Did you have to hypermile? 18.5 was the best I could ever do.

Yep, I added a qt in as little as 800 miles at the most 1200. I had 3 different dealers tell me that it was normal. One dealer even showed me the bulletin that says that they wont even look at oil consumption on M engines unless I’m consistently adding oil in 700 mil intervals or less.
However I personally know two other E9x owners (one office stooge, one trackrat) and track guy has has had to add oil once in between changes, office stooge has never had to.
I’m convinced that mine had been abused early in it’s life. I’ve got an E46 M3 that I’ve had for almost 10 years and I rarely have to add oil, although I know the V8s are more prone to it.
Just an FYI if you have yet to replace the incredibly expensive battery. When the battery starts to go, the electronics in the car go crazy. I found out that the “electronic dipstick” just decided to stop checking my oil as the battery depleted. When I had it in to have the battery replaced I told my inde guy that all of the sudden it seemed like it stopped burning oil. He said, yea well it was telling you lies because you’re way low on oil!

I was in the middle of a 700 mile drive to Tulsa Oklahoma and it was empty 75 mph speed limit highways. I don’t change my driving style at all, so I have no idea how it did that.

I hate this stupid frost warning so much.
GONG!!!! IT’S 37 DEGREES (OR LESS)!!!
I live in Wisconsin. It’s fucking 37 degrees or less for like 3 months straight. I know it’s 37 degrees or less because the exact same gauge cluster screen where the stupid frost warning shows, is where the thermometer display is!
BMW doesn’t let you disable the damn frost warning, and you can’t even code it out. So, my car gongs at me for 3 months straight.

Good to know, thanks! I was told my battery’s on its way out, so I’ll ask my mechanics next time I see them.
The more I hear of these horror stories of costly minor problems, the more I realize that lucked the F out. (Private sale from a guy who babied my M3 for 7 years.)

Has to be flat roads, right? It’s pretty hilly on the highways where I live and commute.

I mean, I get warning you when you first start your car, but why does it warn you constantly while you’re driving?

It gives a one-time warning whenever the temp hits 37. I’ve had it randomly gong while driving if the temp crosses 37. I just dismiss it with the button on the turn signal stalk and it leaves me alone. But it’s so stupid. It doesn’t repeat the gong unless the temp goes back above 37 then back down again.

Sure, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can skip the “battery registration” process and just drop in a new battery. Dealer wanted just over $700 for battery and registration. My inde guy did it for $400, the battery was 3 something. Iv’e heard that you don’t have to buy the oem battery, but that’s not my style on a car that can potentially be really expensive to fix.
Nice that you got a good one. I bought the E46 only looking at photos, and it’s been a gem. I did my homework and got a PPI on the E90, and the car ended up being a let down. Go figure.
